About
Grounded in over 20 years of real practice.
Forest Support Services was built by someone who spent two decades in the rooms where disability support actually happens.
Where it started.
Bec came to disability support from an unlikely direction. Early in her career, she worked as a hairdresser — including regular visits to residential institutions where she cut hair for residents. What she noticed there wasn't the care work. It was the way people were spoken about, and spoken over.
Residents were addressed in the third person while she worked. Staff discussed them as if they weren't present. She was told not to engage with them as she would any other client. She kept doing it anyway.
That stubbornness — the refusal to accept that “this is just how it's done” — became the foundation of more than two decades in frontline disability support. Bec has worked across complex support environments including acquired brain injury, psychosocial disability, autism, and intellectual disability.
She established Forest Support Services to build the kind of practice she always believed was possible: one that starts from respect, holds itself to clear standards, and treats the people it works with as the experts on their own lives.
Our values
Person-centred practice
The participant directs the support, not the other way around. We build around goals, routines, and preferences that belong to the person — not the system.
Trauma-informed approach
We understand that histories matter and that trust is earned, not assumed. We move at the pace of the person, not the pace of the plan.
Competence presumed
We do not reduce people to their diagnosis or their hardest days. Every person we work with is approached from an assumption of capability.
Ethical and accountable
Transparent governance, honest communication, and clear processes — for participants, families, plan managers, and referrers.
How we work.
Our approach is grounded in the NDIS Practice Standards and the Code of Conduct. What that means in practice is straightforward: we show up, we do what we say, and we keep the person at the centre of every decision.
Start by listening
Before any plan or schedule, we take time to understand what matters to the person — their goals, their routines, what they want support with, and what they want left alone.
Build around the individual
Support is tailored to the person, not to an intake template. We work within NDIS funding categories but we don't let category boundaries define the shape of someone's day.
Stay accountable
We maintain clear documentation, transparent reporting, and open communication with participants, families, and plan managers. No surprises, no excuses.
Work toward independence
Our aim is never to create unnecessary reliance on our service. We support people toward the life they want — which sometimes means supporting them to need us less.
